Gravel quarry

The gravel quarry is a mine in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic.

Gameplay

Gravel quarries produce quarried stone, a resource that can be exported or processed into gravel in a gravel processing plant.

Placement

A gravel quarry should only be placed on rocky ground, which can be spotted by its grey stone-like texture, with different colors and pattern compared to grass or dirt. The presence of rocky ground can also can be visualized by the green dots that appear around the quarry during its placement, or indicated by the "Quality of source" percentage.

Connections

Gravel quarries only have a single road connection and a single vehicle loading station. To function, trucks have to park inside and wait to be loaded before they can transport the quarried stone. This, combined with the maximum 0.5 t of storage, means that the quarry will sit idle most of the time when there is no truck parked inside to be loaded. Consequently, to maximize production, it is recommended to place them near a gravel processing plant, reducing the travel time of the transport trucks.

Production

Quarried stone is produced in a gravel quarry either by workers, by machinery, or both. The presence of excavator machinery removes the necessity for workers. Having both can make the extraction faster. It has a theoretical maximum daily production of 140 t per quarry. It's required to have dumper trucks for the transport of the resources as it cannot be transported by any other means. The maximum production per worker is 3.5 t per day. The gravel quarry can have a maximum of 40 workers per shift. Hence, the maximum total output is:

<math>3.5 \frac{t}{\text{worker} \times \text{day}}\times 40\ \text{workers}= 140\,t\ \text{per day}</math>

However, due to the small storage, expect significant downtime as one dumper has to leave the quarry for the next one to enter it in order to be filled up. If you have an excavator on site, having workers on the building is optional, as they are not required for the production of quarried stone.

Notes

  • You can have some issues with vehicles entering the quarry. As there is just one road access to the quarry, sometimes if there are more than two dumper trucks per quarry and if "wait until fully loaded" is enabled for them while the excavator is returning from a refueling trip, the queued up trucks can block the excavator from returning to the quarry. This generates traffic jams and can fully stop quarried stone production for a while. To fix or avoid this, you can:
    • Remove the "wait until loaded order" in the trucks waiting to be filled up at the quarries. This can lead some more fuel to be wasted as trucks will run empty back and forwards to the quarry and processing plant, but in turn, there will be less micro management.
    • Make the quarry a refueling station for the excavators, by adding power and delivering fuel to the location. The excavators will refuel on-site once they are low in fuel instead of making their way to a gas station.
