Residential buildings are a group of buildings in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic.
Gameplay
They function as housing for citizens, housing workers, students and children. Without houses to move to citizens become homeless, happiness receiving heavy penalties, making highly likely to them to escape your republic. Citizens above the age of 21 who live with their parents are also highly likely to escape due to happiness penalties and may require empty housing to move in.
Citizens will search for work and forms to fulfill their needs around their residences. Searching in a range of 400m around their houses, this range can be extended by personal vehicles or by public transportation. If their needs can't be met, multiple penalties can occur.
Strategies
It's recommended to always keep at least one uninhabited building in a city in order to avoid problems with citizen homelessness and citizens above the age of 21 who still live with their parents. Keep in mind to always an eye in your population statistics for that information. Children without parents may need orphanages to move to if their parents die instead of new housing.
Buildings don't need to be located in the same region as the citizens in order for them to move in, as they will teleport across the map, making unnecessary the existence of connecting roads from said citizen to their final housing destination.

Population statistics
The population statistics overview can be found on the left-hand side of the screen in the Advanced information menu. By hovering over the menu, you can find the population statistics menu button, it's the button with some workers standing side by side. All information displayed in the population statistics is the collected result of every single citizen in the republic. Information is gathered by the game and statistically calculated and presented to the player.
