You must win a settlement before the Queen's Impatience rises too far or else you lose the city. Impatience slowly and gradually increases during your mission, starting from the moment after Embarking. Some modifiers make the rate of increase faster or slower, and some events can instantly subtract or add Impatience, potentially to its threshold and thus causing you to lose.

The red bar on the bottom right of the UI represents the time you have left to win. The bar fill red in the direction of the skull graphic. You can hover your mouse over the bar or the skull graphic to see a tooltip with the current value of the Queen's Impatience and the current rate at which Impatience is increasing. In this screenshot, taken at the beginning of a new city, the Queen's Impatience is 0 and increasing at a rate of 0.19 per minute. That means that, without any action, the run will end in about 73½ minutes. In reality, you could have much more time than this, and even after a long run many cities win with just a few points of Impatience due to subtractions.

The red bar on the bottom right is Her Impatience, it will increase by a certain amount every minute. Viceroys can see how fast it increases (Queen's Impatience Speed) by hovering their cursor on the skull icon.

The Queen's Impatience increases gradually. The rate depends on Citadel Upgrades you have purchased and current Perks in your settlement.
Base Queen's Impatience Speed is 0.255 points per minute. All of the Queen's Impatience Speed values get rounded down in the UI to the second decimal.

Impatience is also instantly added when Villagers leave or die, by 0.3. Therefore, if during a Storm three Villagers leave or die, when combined with the duration of the Storm, a full point would have been added to the Queen's Impatience in just a few minutes.
When a Viceroy gains Impatience, they will see the Forests' Hostility go down. This is because Impatience and Hostility are linked. Every full point of Impatience gives -15 Hostility, up to -210 Hostility at full 14 points.

The Perk Mist Piercers increases Impatience by 0.5 for every newly opened Glade. (It may be worth it, however, since you will be able to see the contents of all Glades and can choose only the ones you need.)
Viceroys can make the Queen mad and increase Her Impatience by:
* Calling a Trader
** First Trader Call raises the Impatience by 0.5 points. Every subsequent Call doubles the previous amount

* Assaulting a Trader
** Results in 2-3 Impatience points depending on the Trader, plus some Impatience from villager deaths

Reductions to the Queen's Impatience
* Having villagers leave or die
** Every villager that leaves or dies raises Impatience by 0.3 points
** On Prestige 20 the penalty is raised to 0.8 Impatience points
** Rebellious Spirit Cornerstone raises the Impatience penalty by an additional 0.2 points

Whenever you finish an Order or complete a Glade Event that rewards Reputation, the amount of Reputation gained will be subtracted from the Queen's Impatience. Typically, the way you will see this is this: You will complete an Order that rewards 1.0 Reputation, and you will also be rewarded with a 1.0 reduction to Impatience.
* Picking the Mist Piercers Cornerstone and then opening Glades
**Every newly discovered Glade with Mist Piercers raises Impatience by 0.5 Points

When a Human is the Firekeeper in the Ancient Hearth, your settlement gets the Perk Beacon, which makes Impatience grow 25% slower. Therefore, if the rate of Impatience is +0.20 per minute, and you assign a Human to the Hearth, then the new rate of Impatience will be +0.15 per minute.
Reducing Impatience
The only accessible way to reduce Impatience is through gaining Reputation Points. By default, a full point of Reputation lowers Impatience by the same amount. Prestige 14 reduces Impatience decreased per Reputation point by 50%, to 0.5 Points.

Overview

Impatience.png

Creating a successful settlement is a race against the clock. The Queen's Impatience is this clock. Her Impatience will increase every minute. When Her Impatience reaches a maximum of 14 points, you lose or go into a Last Stand.

Gaining Impatience

Impatience Bar

The red bar on the bottom right is Her Impatience, it will increase by a certain amount every minute. Viceroys can see how fast it increases (Queen's Impatience Speed) by hovering their cursor on the skull icon.

Base Queen's Impatience Speed is 0.255 points per minute. All of the Queen's Impatience Speed values get rounded down in the UI to the second decimal.

When a Viceroy gains Impatience, they will see the Forests' Hostility go down. This is because Impatience and Hostility are linked. Every full point of Impatience gives -15 Hostility, up to -210 Hostility at full 14 points.

Viceroys can make the Queen mad and increase Her Impatience by:

  • Calling a Trader
    • First Trader Call raises the Impatience by 0.5 points. Every subsequent Call doubles the previous amount
  • Assaulting a Trader
    • Results in 2-3 Impatience points depending on the Trader, plus some Impatience from villager deaths
  • Having villagers leave or die
    • Every villager that leaves or dies raises Impatience by 0.3 points
    • On Prestige 20 the penalty is raised to 0.8 Impatience points
    • Rebellious Spirit Cornerstone raises the Impatience penalty by an additional 0.2 points

Reducing Impatience

The only accessible way to reduce Impatience is through gaining Reputation Points. By default, a full point of Reputation lowers Impatience by the same amount. Prestige 14 reduces Impatience decreased per Reputation point by 50%, to 0.5 Points.

The only other way to reduce Impatience in the game is a Perk you can buy from Alune Soulgazer, one of the glade Traders, or get from a big Dullahan Warlander Mystery Box:

1 Perk named 'Badge of Courage'

Slowing down Impatience

There are several ways of slowing down Impatience:

  • Upgrading the Obsidian Archive in the Citadel. Each upgrade reduces Her Impatience rate by 2%, up to 36%. A 36% reduction to base Queen's Impatience Speed sets it to 0.1632 points per minute
    • With both a Human Firekeeper and full upgrades Queen's Impatience Speed is lowered by a total of 61% to 0.09945 points per minute
  • Land of Greed Map Modifier adds a flat +50% Impatience speed, but reduces it by 30% for 3 minutes after every completed trade route. With enough trade route speed and slots, it's possible to even halt the Impatience growth completely this way.

Alt Cor Ord Rel Tra
Frequent Caravans Frequent Caravans Legendary The Crown is very forgiving - as long as the goods keep flowing. Impatience grows 30% slower for 180 seconds every time you finish a trade route. x Cor x x x 0

Last Stand

Viceroys can acquire the Last Stand upgrade in the Obsidian Archive branch of the Citadel, providing them with an extra 30 seconds at 14 Impatience to pull a rabbit out of a hat and find a way to lower it. This feature can be upgraded to last up to 90 seconds at later levels.
