Background

An airfield is a location from which aircraft flight operations take place, regardless of whether they involve air cargo, passengers, or neither, and regardless of whether it is for public or private use. Airfields include small general aviation airfields, large commercial airports, and military air bases.

Gameplay

There are several ways the player can import and export resources, send citizens over the border or welcome visitors to the players republic in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic. Apart from road and waterways, the player can also use airways. For this the player needs to place the right buildings and infrastructure to form an airfield. The airfield needs a Control tower and a Airport road connection and apart from that the airfield road infrastructure as in taxiways, runways and parking spots.

Two types of air transport vehicles are available in Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic:

  • Airplanes
  • Helicopters

At an airfield, passengers can board a plane and visitors to the players republic can be received here. So-called terminals/platforms are available for this. Resources can also be delivered or shipped by air and must be delivered or collected from a cargo terminal or cargo platform.

General

The player starts building an airfield by laying down the runway. The length of the runway depends on the airplane the players is going to use. There are airplanes with a take-off distance of 250m but also with 970m. The player can check the take-off distance needed when purchasing an airplane. Information about it is displayed when selecting an airplane. The player has only one opportunity to place a runway in a straight single line in the world. It's not possible to extend an existing runway.

Airplanes can be bought from an Airplane parking. There are several types of Airplane parking and they are related to the width of the airplanes to purchase. The airplane parking is the next thing to be place by the player.

The airplane parking needs to be connected to the Airplane parking with a Taxiway. This is the next thing to be placed by the player. Placing a taxiway is the same approach as with roads. The player can place taxiways in straight lines, with curves in them, and connect them to other taxiways.

Now it's time for the player to place buildings for passenger and cargo handling; the Airport terminal and Airport cargo terminal, respectively. It is also important to place the Control tower, this building must be provided with workers for the airfield to be operational.

When the player is playing the game by Construction with resources also the Airport road connection needs to be placed. This building needs to be connected to the taxiways and must be build first before the construction can begin for the taxiways and runways.

Helicopters are also in the game and don't need a runway. Helicopters can be bought from a Heliport and have a road connection. Heliports can be build everywhere in the players republic. When Heliports are placed close to a particular building, it can lead to extended functionality of the building. For example, if you place a heliport close to a fire station, the player can purchase a helicopter to fight fires. This also applies to the Hospital, for patient transport by helicopter.

For transportation of resources by helicopter the Heliport cargo platform is available. This platform has Factory connections and Aggregate storage connections. With these connections the Heliport cargo platform can connect to Warehouse, Aggregate storage and Factories.
