Background
Types of education are commonly divided into formal, non-formal, and informal education. Formal education takes place in education and training institutions, is usually structured by curricular aims and objectives, and learning is typically guided by a teacher. In most regions, formal education is compulsory up to a certain age and commonly divided into educational stages such as kindergarten, primary school and secondary school. Non formal education occurs as addition or alternative to formal education. It may be structured according to educational arrangements, but in a more flexible manner, and usually takes place in community-based, workplace-based or civil society-based settings. Lastly, informal education occurs in daily life, in the family, any experience that has a formative effect on the way one thinks, feels, or acts may be considered educational, whether unintentional or intentional. In practice there is a continuum from the highly formalized to the highly informalized, and informal learning can occur in all three settings. For instance, homeschooling can be classified as non formal or informal, depending upon the structure.
Gameplay
- Education simulation is an optional feature and only available when Education simulation is set to Simple or Complex in game settings.
Citizens don't need education for themselves but the economy needs educated workers to properly work. The Education simulation is an option which has two variants:
Just like in real life, just when you were born, chances are you went to kindergarten and your parents went to work. Later you went to school to learn to read and count. And maybe much later you went to university before going to work. And probably you no longer lived at home with your parents but at university and slept in university halls. This dynamic is integrated in Workers and Resources: Soviet republic.
Both variants of the Education simulation are only related to children reaching Basic education. After reaching Basic education children will try to go to a university for University education or higher education.
You can keep track of the progress of the education level of a child. You can zoom in, into a worker, and look for the education level property. This level starts at zero and can run up to 3.0, it's not an exact number.
- No education - Education level 0.0 - 1.0
- Basic education - Education level 1.0 and above
- University education, - Education level 2.0 and above
Basic education
Simple
With the simple Education simulation you don't have to worry about children and education until the children reach the age of around 15. The worker goes to work and the child stays home safely and is automatically cared for. The children automatically reach basic education, Education level 1.0 and above, so no elementary schools and kindergartens are needed.
Complex
With this variant of the Education simulation you have to take care of the workers and their children. You have to provide kindergartens so the babies can go there and the workers can get to there work, so kindergartens allow more workers to work. If there is no room available at the kindergarten, the worker stays at home to look after the baby, impacting your workforce.
From the age of 6 children have to get basic education at a school. You have to build a school so children get there to get educated. They are finished studying at school when they reach education level 1.0 or above.
University education
University education is available in both variants of the Education simulation and act in both variants the same. When children have an education level of 1.0 or above they can go to a university. You can provide university halls to students to let them focus on their study instead of looking for a job. It's also possible to get foster educated from the Television station or the Radio station, the downside is that those students don't get a university degree, they must finish their study at a university.
- Notes
- Students of age 21 and education level from at least 1.0, move automatically to a University hall, if it's in walking distance from their current residence.
- Students can be manually moved to a University hall via the GUI.
- If students are living in a University hall and they graduate, they move to any open apartment in the republic.
- Some jobs require workers with higher education like: professor at a University, doctor in a Hospital, Judge at a Court house, engineer at a Nuclear power plant, etc.
- With a University hall there is a small chance to have a better student ratio or student graduation rate.
- Citizens living in a University hall doesn't look for jobs but only focus to get to education level 2.0 or above.
- If there is no University hall available, but the student is living in a regular residential building, the student may go to University or may go to work or may not do anything, they miss out on getting educated.
- Workers can get foster education in a Television station or Radio station from a higher educated worker.
- If there is no university and a worker reaches education level 2.0 via Television station or Radio station, then the worker doesn't get a University degree.
- If a worker reaches education level 2.0 via Television station or Radio station, he must go to the University to get university degree, the education level will rise to 3.0.
