History
Period pre 1900 AC
Although from the 5th century BC the tribes that lived in present-day Bulgaria were unified by various empires such as the Hellenic or the Roman, Bulgaria as a nation was born in the 6th century AC when the Khan Asparuh of Bulgaria migrated from the North of the Caspian Sea and conquered the Byzantine provinces of Moesia and Scythia Minor. After various religious wars and between tribes, Bulgaria achieved its maximum territorial expansion during the 13th century with possessions in Macedonia, Thessaly and Thrace. From the 14th century to the 19th century the Ottomans would conquer and administer Bulgaria until its independence through the Russian-Turkish War (1877-78) in which through the Treaties of San Stefano and Berlin in 1878 as the "Principality of Bulgaria" and later as an Independent State in 1908

Period 1900-1945
Bulgaria began the 20th century participating in the Balkan Wars (1912-13) against the Ottoman Empire and later in the First World War as an Ally of the Triple Alliance; In both wars he had great loss of life and territory, added to political unrest that ended up bringing Tsar Boris III to power. In World War II, Bulgaria was allied with the Axis until 1943 with the death of the Tsar, passing to the side of the Allies until the end of the war.
Period 1946-Present
In 1944 the communist movement "Bulgarian Fatherland Front" through a series of movements and strikes achieved the abdication of the monarchy and in 1946 the People's Republic of Bulgaria was established. Between 1990 and 1991 the constitution was reformed establishing from a one-party republic to a parliamentary democracy and giving way to the current Republic of Bulgaria. In recent years Bulgaria joins in international pacts such as NATO (2004) and the European Union (2007)
