On your journey you will find runes, which can be equipped to gain various bonuses. If Thorald dies on any difficulty higher than Easy he must sacrifice a rune if he has any. He will never lose divine runes.
Thorald has 5 belts for sword, bow, units, city and divine runes. Each one starts with 3 rune sockets, and the limit can be increased up to 6 by finding additional sockets.
Runes come in five levels of quality. Epic runes can only be found after land 1 and legendary runes can only be found after land 2.
