Phorid flies are challenge mode enemies in rainforest documentary levels.

Abilities

Phorid flies rest on harvestable plants. They can't directly attack other creatures or be attacked. Infested locations are represented by fly symbols on the minimap.

Phorid flies will attempt to lay eggs inside nearby leafcutter ants. Infected ants can only move and attack very slowly. They are dead 2 minutes afterward without losing any health. Phorid flies can't infect other ant species.

Leafcutter ants have 0% chance to fend off phorid flies when they are carrying leaves and 30% chance when they don't. Level 3 mediae and majors have 100% chance to fend off phorid flies, even if they are carrying leaves.

A successful defense will cause the flies to leave the area permanently. Each ant can only chase away 1 fly every 2 minutes. Leafcutter ants can still remove phorid flies even if you disable attacking.
