Black ants (Formica fusca) are playable as complete colonies in story missions, extra missions and freeplay.

Black ants use basic attack by biting.

In the main story, you can unlock black ant soldiers for your gene-thief ant colony using Royal Jelly.

Black ants can shoot formic acid in real life. The developers don't implement this in the game because black ants are meant to get players used to basic game mechanics.

Black garden ants (Lasius niger) were replaced with black silky ants because the later are hosts of the chosen slave-maker ants. They were removed from the game completely from version 0.05 onward.
