This page shows the mechanics of enemy mounting.

Enemy mounting

Only tile-originated ants can mount large and huge enemies in combat. The number of mounting ants on each creature is preset and unaffected by their size.

Moutning only happens when the number of attacking ants meets a certain threshold. Attacking ants will mount and dismount until all mounting slots are occupied and the required ratio between mounting ants and attacking ants on the ground is met.

Mounted enemies will take more damage if enough mounting slots become occupied. The specific calculation hasn't been revealed.

Mounting ants can only use basic attack and can't use any abilities, except for fire ants.

You can disable attacking or enemy mounting to prevent your ants from mounting and make them dismount. Mounting ants will be forced to dismount when mounted enemies leave the map.

The same mechanics are applied to termites.

Mountable enemies

Termite king, bullet ant soldiers and super leafcutter ant major can't mount any enemies.

Large ants can only mount huge enemies. They include leafcutter ant mediae, leafcutter ant majors, matabele ant soldiers, army ant majors and termite major soldiers.

Small ants can mount both large and huge enemies. They include other ants and termites.

Mounting threshold is 4 for huge enemies and 3 for large enemies.
