This page shows the mechanics of enemy mounting.
Enemy mounting
Only colony units can mount large and huge enemies in combat. The number of mounting units on each creature is preset and unaffected by their size.
Mounting only happens when the number of attacking units is above a certain threshold (2 - 4). Attacking units will mount and dismount until all mounting slots are occupied and the required ratio between mounting units and attacking units on the ground is met.
Mounted enemies will take more damage if enough mounting slots become occupied. The specific calculation hasn't been revealed.
Mounting units can only use basic attack and can't use any abilities, except for fire ants.
You can disable attacking or enemy mounting to prevent your units from mounting and make them dismount. Mounting units will be eliminated when mounted enemies escape.
Mountable enemies
Small units can mount both large and huge enemies.
Large units include leafcutter ant mediae, leafcutter ant majors, matabele ant soldiers, army ant majors, driver ant large soldiers, African stink ant soldiers and termite major soldiers. Large units can only mount huge enemies.
Termite kings, bullet ant soldiers and super leafcutter ant major can't mount any enemies.
