Termites (Macrotermes bellicosus) are playable as complete colonies in story levels, extra levels and custom games.
Abilities
Termites use basic attack by biting. Major soldiers can only use basic attack while mounting enemies.
Minor soldiers can confuse, slow enemies down and make them take more damage.
Majors can increase the attack speed of themselves and nearby termites from the same colony each time they hit their attacks. The effect stacks on top of itself and reverts to normal over time. The maximum value is currently unknown. Major soldiers can only use this ability while on the ground.
You can have a single termite king when you play as a termite colony. It is invulnerable until the queen is dead. It is uncontrollable and can only attack enemies.
Minir workers slow down while carrying. Major workers are counted toward soldiers and can't do nest jobs.
Food processing
Termites automatically bring lignocellulose back to lignocellulose storage. Each storage tile costs 5 food to build and can hold 10/ 40/ 100 lignocellulose. Enemies aren't edible and disappear after 3 minutes.
Minor workers eat and process lignocellulose in their bodies. Each minor worker can process 10 lignocellulose every 20/ 15/ 10 seconds. You will lose lignocellulose if the processing termites are dead.
Minor workers will expel the waste in fungus storage to cultivate fungus. Each fungus storage tile costs 5 food to build, can hold 10/ 40/ 100 food and cultivate 1 food every second.
Level 3 minor workers can process lignocellulose into 50% more food.
You can disable lignocellulose processing to make them stop eating lignocellulose. They still have to finish ongoing digestion.
You receive 66% of the building cost as lignocellulose from deleting a tile. Fungus can only exist on fungus storage tiles so lignocellulose is left on the ground instead.

Trivia
- Termite colonies start with 19-tiled queen chamber and a 7-tiled fungus storage in custom games.
- Formossan termites (Coptotermes formossanus) won over European wasps (Vespula germanica) to be rewards for reaching the 3rd kickstarter stretch goal (£17500). The chosen termite species was eventually decided to be Macrotermes bellicosus.
- Adaptations are applied to major workers in New Game Plus even though they are counted toward soldiers.
